Is there a way to import individual photos from a camera in iPhoto?

Sometimes with the software that comes with the camera it will let you do it or using your printer, but as far as I can remember iPhoto won't give you that option but I could be wrong.

No. But you can use Image Capture (in Applications) instead then import the results into iPhoto.

If the camera mounts on your desktop, you could just open that up, highlight the photos you require, and then drag and drop them into iPhoto.
