    Hey guys

Whenever I shoot RAW, the camera (Panasonic DMC-FZ50), as I understand it, also produces a JPEG so that I can see a preview on the LCD screen. The problem occurs when I go to import my pictures into iPhoto.

When the import screen appears, it shows 2 copies of each photo; a JPEG and a RAW. So every single time, I need to select all (and only) the RAW photos which is a huge pain in the butt if I mixed in some high quality JPEGs also (ie I can't just pick every other photo).

    Any suggestions?

Many cameras will save two images at the time of shooting - RAW and JPEG. There should be an option in your camera to save RAW only.

I was just going to say the same thing. You've probably got it set to RAW + JPEG, but you can set it to just shoot in RAW.

My Nikon has the option to shoot raw only or both. But if your camera lacks this option then what you do is import using Image capture, then in the finder sort the files by type, select all the JPGs and trash them. Then you go to iPhoto and import from th folder. I do it this way always because my next step is to drag the folder into a burn folder and archive the unedited images

I think I see what you're saying now.

It'd be odd if the camera did save a high res JPEG purely for your viewfinder. A thumbnail, maybe, but that shouldn't then be available to transfer to the computer.

How big are these JPEG duplicates?

The JPEGs are 3648x2736 pixels at 2.1mb. You guys are probably right about that RAW + JPEG setting. I'm going to poke around my camera and figure out where that is set. Thanks so much!

My money is on the RAW + JPEG option. Panasonic are fantastic, so I'm sure the option will be there somewhere.
