iPhoto iPod/iPad sync question

Well, on my old MBP I had all of my pictures in Folders on my Finder, but when I transferred to my new MBP all of my pictures are now in iPhoto, not as albums though (as Events in the main Photos).

So, if I sync my iPod, can I sync certain events and not sync certain others, or do I need to make Albums in iPhoto to separate them?
