I installed iPhoto on my MBA yesterday and started playing around with it. I copied over a bunch of photos from my Windows computer and all the photos are sitting in my Photos folder. Once I've imported all the photos into iPhoto, do I need to keep the photos on my MBA? I'm gonna transfer them to a DVD for backup obviously but I want to know if I can remove them once imported to save on space.

That depends whether you had iPhoto copy them or link to them.
ie: iPhoto can either copy every photo you import into its own magical iPhoto library (that you should never, ever touch) OR it can simply reference every photo you import from wherever you have them saved on your HD.

You can choose (before you import) in the iPhoto Preferences.

By default I expect it copied them, in which case you can back them up and remove them from Finder. If it is referencing them, then they must stay where they are or else iPhoto loses the link.

Hope that helps.
