I have a Macbook Pro macOS High Sierra. I seem to have photos in iphotos and photos, should I be only using one library? I see conflicting information and want to make sure I set up icloud correctly as I've lost some christmas day videos of my son :(

iPhotos is deprecated. I would move everything to Photos, unless there is another app relying on the iPhotos folder structure. Aperture is an older app that comes to mind.

iPhoto still works on HS so you can move the app onto the new OS and keep them in iPhoto if you want - probably good to keep a back up of the iPhoto library - once you open in Photos the database is upgraded and you will not be able to go back to iPhoto.

I have multiple libraries of iPhoto and also multiple Photos libraries - so it can get confusing and you have to be careful when launching them.

Also there are different versions of Photos (Photos 2 - Sierra / Photos 3 HS / Photos 4 Mojave )

hope that helps
