I have a folder in Pictures folder named "Desktop Pictures". I download new desktop pictures to this folder on occasion. I have synced this folder with my iPhoto library. Now, when I add a new picture to the desktop pictures folder, I have to Move to Trash the existing Desktop Pictures event in iPhoto, then re-import my Desktop Pictures folder. Is there an easier way to do this (e.g., auto-sync with the "Pictures/Desktop Pictures" folder)? Thanks...

No. IPhoto is not meant to sync with your library. It creates it's own database that it copies photos too, and just keeps them managed. That is, if you have copy to library checked. If you don't and you only reference from your own folder structure, you still can't. It's simply not what it was designed to do.

And for the record, if you have photos referenced to your own folders, and you mess about with those photos by moving/renaming/adding/deleting files, that's nearly a sure-fire way of messing up the iPhoto database.
