My ipod classic was stolen a couple of days ago and I'm looking into replacing it, but I'm not sure what to replace it with and if now is a good time. I had about 70GB worth of stuff on my old ipod - probably 30GB of music and 25GB of video. So if I were to replace it with a 32GB touch I'd have to kick off a bunch of music that I rarely listen to and a lot of video. Is it easy to keep track of what goes on and off? All of my stuff is already organized by playlist.

How much space does the 32GB model let you use? Am I looking at another 6 or 7 months before 64GB becomes available? Right now I'm using an old 512MB iriver with a power/play/pause button that's been resoldered a few times so if it's going to be a really long wait it might be better to just get something now. I'd rather not get another Classic because I already had one and I like the internet features the Touch has.

Last question - does the new ipod come with the new OS? The Apple site doesn't say one way or another. I'd be buying it at an Apple store because I get a pretty good company discount.

Thanks!

i have a feeling that the current iPhone OS has been around for..ages. the same old glossy square icons..

if they ever release a 64gb ipod touch, it'd be waaaay better than the 32gb. but i have a first gen 32gb ipod touch myself so yeah.

it's great, storage is more than enough and i prefer safari internet over my laptop's internet explorer.

ipod experience is just the best i've ever tried... coverflow is beautiful and choosing songs is realy snappy. just make sure u get a good case because they scratch EASILY, VERY EASILY.

so either~
1. buy 2nd gen 32gb NOW
2. or wait for 64gb version which will come out soon as flash memory pricesdrop really quickly
3. or wait PAST the 64gb version, and wait for a major ipod touch update.

if i were u i'd go for option 3. buying the first 64gb version will be expensive.. don't regret a couple months later saying, "oh.. if i waited those couple of months i could've had GPS, VOIP, a new snappy user interface on the 3rd gen ipod touch"

or, get a refurbished ipod touch/classic off the apple website. they sell them for cheap, and included 1 year NORMAL warranty. refurbished makes u think second hand, but apple actually replaces parts of the/fix the ipod before they sell it. they make it look new again, but they can't LEGALLY sell it as 'new'. i bought a refurbished ipod off apple and there were NO scratches, battery life was great and it was just like new (except it came in a brown cardboard box)

good luck

OH ALSO NEW IPOD COMES WITH NEW OS 2.1 FOR FREE - WHICH INCLUDED NIKE + application

I would buy the 32GB one now, or wait for a 64GB, but i would not wait for the next version that orangejelly said, because it is going to be over a year away (same time every year for new ipods) and who knows even if there is going to be a GPS etc in it. Just buy now and enjoy it :)

I would buy

I think it is pointless to wait, seeing as they just barely updated the iPod touch, and yet they kept the storage sizes the same. That is saying that the price hasn't dropped enough to justify manufacturing any larger sizes, because the price would be too outrageous. I would go ahead and buy one now, and if indeed another bigger size comes out sometime in the future, you could easily sell yours to someone and upgrade it. You won't regret having a 32gig. Mines a 16gig and I love it to pieces.

Ok, cool. I hear that it may be possible to get VOIP to work with the new version since it has a mic, but at the moment it's not really a big deal since I just carry my mobile around (would be nice to call friends in Europe and not have to buy a prepaid SIM when I visit though). I like the volume control on the side the 2g has too.

I've been burned in the past by waiting - a year ago I was hoping for a HD-based touch and that didn't happen. These upgrade events are pretty much in February and September? From what I hear the 64GB chips just came out from the manufacturer so it'll probably be a while before there are enough of them to make the new model. At this point I'm not so sure I can wait 6 months for the next update since I travel 3 out of every 4 weeks for work and my old ipod was my main source of entertainment in flight and on travel.

But what about the new iphone 2.1 update? Does it ship on the 2g touch? I still haven't found anything that says that it does or doesn't.

it does

unlike the 1g ipod touch the new 2g ipod ships with a different build of the 2.1 firmware included. Which means it has the app store and all that jazz. But also since the way things are built in the software, it hasn't been jailbroken yet. Not sure if you care, but it is convenient to have full control. But I am sure it is a matter of time before it is. It sounds like your really need it and would get a lot of use out if it. So I would stop second guessing and just go for it! You will be more that glad that you did. And now it gives you an excuse to build up a nice collection of music videos like me! :D

:)

okay so this thread says iPod 2G questions
was wondering whats the wifi like? can you go on MSN , Myspace, Facebook etc. okay? am really researching into wether to buy a iPod touch 16GB once i save up :|
do you think prices would drop for christmas??
thanks in advance :)

I have a video question.

I have a 5.5g and I want a 2g touch. Will my handbrake rips work on the touch? I ripped them in classic ipod mode and the play fine on my 5g.
