Ipod 3g won't update at all

    I recently restored my ipod (it was filled to the brim with songs and stuff, and set it up as a new ipod. Before it was restored, I had neglected to update it to 4.3.5, so it is 4.2.1 right now. Unfortunately whenever I go to update it my computer says it is the newest version, and when I manually downloaded the update, it said that it is an incompatible file. help?

    Apple sold the 2G iPT 8gb version as the 3G. But its still the 2G(hardware wise) so its max iOS version is 4.2.1.
