iPod backup software, not iTunes

Hi Folks,
I'm looking to backup my iPod to an external hard drive.
I don't really want to be able to read the data at any stage, just a backup incase of failure.

iPod --> Mac --> Ext HD.

Simple as that.
Any recommendations?

Disk Utility might be able to clone it. I can't really see how that'd help though. Wouldn't it be easier to back up iTunes? 🙂

I have mp3s on the iPod that are not in my iTunes library anymore.
