ok, this is ridiculous:

My GF more or less forces me to get a music system setup for our living room. There is no space for a large stereo system.

So I plan on the following:

ipod touch 32GB ($399)
connected to a Bose Wave System 2 ($499)
and put her Music library onto a new MB ($1599)

she get's the MB paid by work, i pay for the touch and the Bose Wave.

Means, I'll have to do setup and maintainance, have access to a MB. All fine.

Does this system make sense in terms of sound quallity and ease of use?

Is there a update for the Bose Wave System coming out soon? I don't want to buy old tech.

Bose sells a extra ipod dock for the wave system with a remote. is it worth it?

i know wasting a MB only as a itunes library machine is bad. but as I said we get it from work and i would probably put my old powerbook there and use the MB for real work.

Buying Bose period is a waste of money... I would consider looking at other alternatives.

Also, if you're just interested in a music player, I would get the iPod classic. I feel like the touch is far too expensive at this point to hold a large collection of music.

I think Bose is excellent. I have had Bose Headphones and a Bose SoundDock Portable, the sound quality is excellent, the SoundDock fills a room with ease, and their customer service I think is second to none.

uh, bose a waste of money? well, true in a sense. but then music is a waste of money to begin with and the setup my GF wants me to do is even more a waste of money.

but in the range of easy to use, decent looking, great sound providing, small DVD players with iPod support i don't know anything else than the bose. i'm happy to get any suggestions.

bose sound dock won't work because we want a dvd player that has ipod support.

regarding the ipod: yes, a classic is the better option but since my GF saw the iPhone she won't settle for less than a touch. it's also nicer to select music with an ipod touch.

why not get a nice set of external speakers to use with macbook or get an airport express? I like the sounddock but I have not paid too much attention to the new wave system since I had the original.

well, i prefer a stand alone solution with cd player. i don't want to wake up a mac, log in and wait just to start playing music. turning on the device by remote is much nicer. and i don't want to run a mac 24/7 just for music.
