everytime i plug my ipod into my comp it charges...even after its supposed to be fully charged...is my battery draining too fast of is this normal ?

and the 4 bars of energy graphic up top...how long should each bar last ? 2 hours ?

The best way to figure out your iPod's battery time under normal usage is, well, to use it, and see how long it lasts. That'll give you a fair idea of how long each bar goes, or whether each bar lasts equally long, etc.

I've found that having a good overall idea of battery life as well as an idea of how long it lasts after the last bar is gone is good enough (for me, ten hours and up to a half-hour, respectively).

Is the iPod like lots of other doodads in that if you don't let the battery run down, the life gets shorter and shorter?

I have heard that this is true. Although it is hard to let it run down when I need to sync due to new music and or updates to my iCal settings.... usually once I have it plugged in I forget about it. I do think that the new iPods are intelligent enough to know when they have had enough, charge that is, I could be wrong and if I am, that should be the next feature.

My wife's iPod has run down a few times but that is only because she is not so anal about syncing and updating her playlists.

I have the 1st Gen 5gig too .. but mine doesn't even GET to 1 bar - it dies on 2 bars, sometimes even on 3 !!

Fantastically annoying, to say the least...

The iPods, even when charged, run through a cycle to make sure that they are powered to the full. This is a common practice in many different forms of re-chargable batteries. This is why it appears to be still charging. If you turn it on you will see that it is in fact fully charged.

I leave mine plugged in all the time, that is when it is not in use. I find that I get more use out of it that way. Leaving it unplugged only one night zapps about one hour I could have used for musical entertainment.

Hey all, so this weekend i brought my pod out for its first trip.

it was the first time using it for a prolonged amount of time. I charged it up full then I say it lasted about 6 hours...so im a bit nevous that might be the life span..

a few Q's

- could that be just cause it was the first tiem i ever had it charged full and used it til it was empty ?

- and if its fully charged and i use it for an hour, then turn it for for an hour, then use it after that...will two hours of life be gone ?

Sorry if this is basic stuff. I'm a bit unsure about the life of the charge with reguards to prolonged times of not using it / exactly as to how the sleep mode works.

Anyone know of any great ipod sites that might have this kinda silly info
