I know that hard drives die and this thing can't live forever but I only used it inside, 6 years old, I added some music to it with downloaded artwork from Amazon and it started to act crazy when trying to play the new music, slow responses, not always playing the song etc, I can't remember how it devolved from there but after not being able to sync, it is now stuck in disk mode or "must restore through Itunes" screen.

When I do the 12 seconds DFA reset, it will run me through the recovery process and either end on a 1443 error or "can't recognize this ipod" error.

Are there any third party programs or any other methods to possibly bring this back to life? Thanks.

Oh and I put it through diagnostic mode:

Retracts 16
Reallocs 248
Pending Sectors 112
Power on Hours 140
Start Stops 9290
Temp Current 33C
Min 16C
Max 53C

Hi,
112 pending sectors is too much. The drive is faulty.
