iPod Classic and Ventura 13.4.1

Is there any way to get my good old iPod Classic to work with Ventura 13.4.1? I attach the Classic to my MacBook Air (using an adaptor, as the computer has no USB port). The iPod is acknowledged in the Finder; next, the message "Software: loading..." appears in the window. However, it seems that no matter what amount of patience I expend, the software never finishes loading; therefore, I cannot get to the point where I can work with the iPod.

Thank you for any advice.
