How delicate/durable is the hard drive in the Classic? How severe of a bump is needed to damage it?

It's a fairly standard platter-based hard drive. If you drop it, it's probably going to have issues.

I've dropped my 4 year old mini and my 3 year old video countless times over the years. I don't even blink when they hit the ground now.
They'll die eventually but neither hard drive's given me a problem yet. I don't think hard drive based iPods are as delicate as people make out. The mini was the first iPod Apple marketed to runners.
