The only thing really keeping me from upgrading my 2010 Mac Pro to an Apple Silicon machine is the fact that I have 70GB of my own CDs syncing with a modded iPod Mini (yes, the 2005 one). I have a final-model Classic I could rehabilitate if needed... But the iPods are not something I can just give up.

Anyone tested old iPods in Ventura yet?

Don't this iPods require iTunes for syncing or does that functionality get rolled into Music app?
It did get rolled into the Music app. I haven't had any problems syncing older iPods using the Music app/Finder in Monterey (my main two are a 5.5 gen iPod and a 160GB Classic) so I don't believe Ventura would drop that functionality

Good to know this. I had a feeling Apple wouldn't abandon the iPods with Mac-side support.

That's good to hear. The majority of the reports I've found with the Googles are saying there's just tons of problems.

My apologies for commenting on an old thread.

Has anyone recently tried restoring an iPod Classic in Ventura? For some reason, Windows 11 shows the iPod correctly and will restore it but macOS Ventura simply refuses to restore or even show the correct information about the iPod (even in DFU mode -- in here Finder says the software is unavailable).

Any ideas how to proceed from here? Aside from migrating the library to Windows...

I haven’t been able to update my iPod classics (120 GB stock, modified 80 GB) since updating my 2017 MacBook Pro to Ventura last week.

When I connect an iPod, it shows up in the sidebar in Finder as usual, but when I select it, the Finder window remains blank. The sync menu never shows up.

Similarly, the iPod shows up in the sidebar in Music, but when I select it, either there is a message in the window that reads "This iPod is open in another window" (if it's open in Finder first) or the window says "Loading..." but never resolves (otherwise).

Two other (likely) relevant items:
  • When I plug in the iPod, I get a message in the Touch Bar telling me that I should use Touch ID to allow AMPDeviceDiscoveryAgent to make changes. No similar request appears on screen.
  • When I look at Activity Monitor, I see that there is a process under Finder "com.apple.amp.devicesui (Finder) (Not Responding)"
I posted this in the iPod classic discussion on apple.com too, and have gotten some “Me Too” responses, but nothing in the way of solutions.

Well I guess my Mojave machine can never die then...
