It all depends on your amount of music.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE the nano so much but 8GB is not nearly enough for me.

Are people finding the UI on both the Classic and the Nano to be very laggy? It's the one thing that's really bothering me. For some reason even coverflow on the iPhone is much smoother than the regular UI on the Classic even though it has to drive more pixels and process more graphics.

This hurts the "awesomeness" of both devices. Thoughts?

if you have a touch on the way for you

I'm still going with the classic I think, but I'm trying to find out more about people's experience with the lagging UI.

As for colors, if you're a female or gay male, I think the blue is pretty tight looking. If not, I think the pastels are a little too feminine (at least for me). I don't mean to genderize the colors, that's just my personal taste. And since I have always felt that the silver is timeless, I would go with that. For some reason, I have never really liked the black aluminum iPods. But, that again is personal taste. You might want to look at the Product (RED) as well... that thing is smoking. Plus they give like $2 of the price to charity.

Best to see them in person.

Sincerely,

Ado

how about both? Two different products for two different uses. I got the Nano for the family to watch video and I'll get the classic for holding my entire collections (and to replace my aging iPod Photo 60GB).:)

I have a new nano, and I think the interface is fine. Hardly any lag at all, except for coverflow. But I did try an iPod classic in an Apple Store, and that did seem to lag quite a lot for 10 seconds after you turn it on, but after that, it was no worse than 5Gs.
The iPhone is much smoother than the classic in coverflow because it has a faster processor and it uses flash memory, instead of a hard drive.

I am a gay man and wouldn't be caught dead with the the blue Nano. I went with the silver Nano. Being gay doesn't predispose one genetically to adore pastels. I think anybody lusting after a Nano now will have an easy decision once they see them in the store. If you are able to resist one, than more power to you.

FWIW, people are saying they like the classic for the ability to carry their entire collections with them. That is great assuming your collection will never grow. My old 80 GB MBP used to hold everything I have and now 160 doesn't cut it. I would like to put my entire 1 TB drive on my nano but it ain't gonna happen.

The lag on the classic UI put me off of it. IMO any lag on an iPod is too much. It also has no sex appeal as I am gay and it doesn't come in some shade of pastel. That was the deal breaker for me.

LOL! that's so good! altho i think it would have been funnier saying it out loud instead of in text. either way... LOL!

They are the same.
No difference in features at all, so get one that is best for you. Do you need more space that 8g? Then you need the classic, is 8g enough? Get save the money, save your pocket size and get a nano.

Nike + iPod Sport Kit?

Does anyone have any experience with the firmware update on the Classic? Does it actually improve the lag?

I've already decided to buy it, I'm just wondering if this update will help. Oh, and have the recent reviews had any impact on people's perceptions of the Nano or Classic?

Thanks again,

The update has certainly improved the speed of the UI. Can't say much for coverflow, since I don't use it, but the rest seems much more snappy.

I've got the black 80GB

If you read my post, my point was that I think the pastel colors are too feminine. Whereas a gay man might not be bothered by this, a straight man might, and they might not be able to tell just how pastel the blue Nano is by the pictures. I do not think, and have never thought, that gay men are genetically predisposed to like pastel colors. They're just predisposed to "not be caught dead" with things.

Juuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuust kidding. Calm down. :eek::p;)

Thanks, that's the info that I was looking for.

HA HA HA. I too was kidding and didn't take anything you said as offensive. Sorry if you thought I was being serious.

*snaps in Z formation

I guess it all depends on your usage. If you want to be able to take it anywhere I would suggest the Nano because it's smaller. I just picked up an 8 gig silver Nano to replace my first gen Nano and I'm impressed. It's a nice upgrade!

Believe it or not ! but the Blue ipod nano is not gay!

Alright people. If you have new ipod nano that is blue, you do not worry at all cuz it is the sexiest color in the line-up.if I see someone having blue ipod nano on train or anywhere else i wont invite him to the toilet just because its a gay color.its considered to be more fashionable to have that color of ipod.the silver nano is an old school style and stuff and give you an easy decision if you have no idea the right color you should buy but after a while youll find it very boring color and no more passion for ipod nano will last and go for sony old style walkman.im very sorry for mr steve jobs if that happens.so please buy the blue ipod nano cuz its the best ipod color ever in the apple history and i am not telling a STORY.believe it or not!

so exactly what color iPod would influence your decision to follow me into a train toilet? What is your phone number?

you think pink can be a gay color on your ipod ? you are wrong. id ask the people working on the ipod colors to have a rainbow ipod nano and that is it.and no i dont want to give you my number. and i dont even want yours.thanks everyone.

iThink that the iPod Touch beats both the nano and the classic:D:D:apple:

That wasn't asked here. Have fun with your negative black crippled unit. For the majority of people the Nano is great. Holiday sales will demonstrate this. The margins are high on it and it is the best selling iPod out there. Enough space has been wasted on the touch elsewhere. Please keep it to the topic at hand or at least with in the realm of this sub-forum.

The iconic Apple itself used to be rainbow colored. It didn't work. Other than that i can not ascertain what you are trying to say. Dinner is on me.
