i was wondering why theres no FW400 for the new ipods... doesn't make sense why they couldnt make that an option..?

Basically, it takes up more physical space (i.e. room) in the device, so Apple decided to remove firewire support in exchange for a smaller device.

It is due to the extra cost involved in using the Firewire Chips. I for one would like to see Firewire come back, but I doubt it will happen, unless USB 3.0 fails.

You can still use Firewire for charging all iPod devices, including the iPhone.

...except for the iPhone 3G. It charges with USB only.

Makes me wonder if ALL new iPods will charge only with USB from this point forward...
