If its the first prob, then it's easily fixed. If it's the 2nd, then it's probably a hardware problem -- most likely a problem with the wheel pad incorrectly registering contact. If it's a hardware prob, then you need to take it to Apple or an apple store and get a replacement if it's still under waranty. If not under warranty, then the repair cost will be very nearly as much as a new Ipod. And Apple likes it that way ;-)

Hi guys,

I've been reading and trying your possible solutions, but none of them seems to work. Today my iPod Nano doesn't want to sleep! (iPod isomnia? :D)
No reboot, no reset, no stop fuction turns it off!!! :(
Any other ideas? Hammer?
The version is 1.1.

Thanks!

I have this problem a lot, especially when listening to podcasts. What fixes it for me is to either change the now playing selection (just choose a song), or let it play 1-2 seconds after the freeze point. It always shuts down normally after this.

Yes, good point. If you've ust started an item, or jsut connected/disconnected from a dock, the ipod can take a few seconds to catch up, get things in order and accept a shut down command. Usualy, jsut waiting a bit then turning it off will work -- some folks swear by turning the Hold button to Hold then back but I think this is jsut something to do while waiting.

interestingly enuff.. i am actually shutting my ipod off using the sweet spot theory:s.... it only shuts off if i use my nail to keep press the play button closest to the center button:S

If you can't turn it off, that just means that the device doesn't think that you're done using it. Which is smarter: a highly advanced chip that can handle millions of calculations per second or a lump of meat encased in a brittle skull? I think the choice is clear.
