You could always wait until they invent nuclear batteries, and then you won't have to worry about the battery life.

of course a nuclear battery would burn a whole in your pocket...

I still have yet to see these problems you've been talking about, and I have a First Generation iPod. My battery life is fine, I don't have any issues with the pod itself, and the thing's fallen down a half-flight of stairs because my clumsy self tripped on the top step.

It still chugs along like the day I opened it.

You are lucky !!

I dropped my 2nd gen iPod twice into the snow while shoveling this winter, and then onto the sidewalk...and I use it for about an hour and a half every work day on a very bumpy bus commute. It skips very, very rarely; has only not booted up properly once (easily cured by the menu/play reset); and still holds at least an 8-hour charge.

In short, count me in with the "love my iPod, no significant problems" category. :)

(love the colorful new smilies!!)

The battery can run out, but if you get the $69 warranty your covered for 2 years so if it dies they replace it for free, so don't worry.

Better yet buy it from Best Buy and get their extended 4 year warranty for like $40 and get a swap out for a bad unit. Had this happen both for my 20gb 3g and my other half's 15gb 3G (that one was just swapped yesterday).

I didn't break the case ! it popped open twice....I'm very very careful with my ipod because its expensive ! I never said break......The metal bottom popped away from the white top.

Please don't put words in my mouth.

Usually that's quite easy to fix. Just take a knife or guitar pick and slip it between the front and back with the front facing upward. Twist downward to pop into place. Be careful not to scratch.

I have to add that I have just received my NEW ipod from Apple. After the other two ipods had problems, they sent me a new one. I'm very happy because they said that the problem was the ipod itself !

I have to say that it took them about a week....

So I hope that 3rd time is lucky for me.

THANK YOU APPLE JAPAN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Know how to make sure your battery lasts as long as possible? Only recharge it when it's empty. Lithium ion batteries have a certain number of RECHARGES, not a simple life.
This is not true. Frequent deep discharges are bad for lithium batteries. They cannot be overcharged and should be topped off whenever possible.
