Just a question to those who know about programing and the like.

I am wondering if it would be possible for apple or anyone else to update the ipod software to allow deleting songs from the ipod without connecting it to a computer. The way I use my ipod now is I load on an album and then throughout the day I will write down the names of the songs that arent that great and will erase them the next time I connect to the computer. This optimizes the space on my ipod. It would be so much simpler to be able to instantly erase the songs using the scroll wheel. How would one suggest this to apple?

Can't say much about the programming aspect of it, but that feature request is shared by many people... I think the problem is, if you use auto-update, the songs would keep being added each time you sync. So a delete function would only work for those on manual-update. But that's not really an excuse for leaving the feature out...

Perhaps it will show up in future revisions? the "contacts" feature did, it was heavily requested prior to that...

If you are going to delete songs, the iPod Hard Drive must be running. So the easiest way would be to have a software on the iPod in which you can go into Settings/Delete/ and then select the songs you want to get rid of.

I am not sure how to organize these songs (by Title, Playlist, what have you...), but Apple might come up with something.

Any time is a great time for iPod.

You all seem to like your iPods. I don't have much opportunity to listen to music other than in my car. I dont' use a walkman, and don't have a bunch of ripped songs. Do you guys think an Ipod would be something I'd like and find that I'd use a lot, or would it just gather dust?

If you're doing most of your listening in the car, are you listening to the radio, tape or CD?

If it's tape or CD, the iPod could help you cut down on the clutter of carrying CDs and tapes.

I use mine everyday at work. Plug it in to the stereo and I've got more music than I can hope to listen to in one day.

Well, I don't have a car (I live in the city and a car would be drain on resources without adding much benifit--rental cars rule!), but I have often thought that if I ever decide to get one, I might use my iPod connected to my car stereo and not even get a CD player. Maybe you'd use it a lot that way.

Plus, having a walkman can be a handy thing: great for work, commuting, walking, exercising, etc.

I love mine. You should try one out before buying, but I think they are worth the cash.
