iPod hifi power blown

Had a surge in my house and my beloved hifi is blown. Is it possible to change the power? Does anyone know anything about this?

The iPod HiFi is sealed up pretty well. Does it run off of battery power? If so it may be an easier fix.

i've got one, and have been looking for years for the service doc. no luck so far. i thought google knew everything?!

closest i've found after all this time is some dude who took one apart and took a few pictures. posted to flickr HERE.

looks difficult. glue, putty knives, swearing, etc.
