Hi all,

I'm thinking about getting an iPod or iPod Mini. I couldn't find answers to some of my questions on Apple's site, so I'm bringing my questions to you :)

1. What is an on-the-go playlist? Apparently this lets you create playlists on-the-go, but what does that mean? What is the alternative way of creating a playlist?

2. Follow up to #1 ... can you create Smart Playlists with the iPod, or do you need to transfer them from iTunes?

3. Can you listen to songs from just one playlist? What about just two playlists? For example, if I'm at the gym, can I listen to my "Dance" and "Electronic" playlists without hearing songs from other playlists?

4. Is the "single-click shuffle" the equivalent of the iTunes Party Shuffle?

5. Is there anything else I should know? :)

partial answers:

initially, you couldn't do any song list management on the iPod. you could only import the lists you create in iTunes. since gen. 3 iPod, on the go playlist basically allowed us to create a playlist on the iPod by choosing songs on it, without having to sync with iTunes.

smart playlists can still only be created within (and then imported from) iTunes.

you can listen to songs from one playlist at a time. i don't think you can choose two playlists and play songs from them.

Answers:
1) An on the go playlist is a playlist that is created on your iPod by selecting songs and playlists. On the go playlists can be deleted by the ipod. The other way of making a play list is on your computer using iTunes. Playlists made on iTunes cannot be deleted with the iPod.

2) Smart Playlists can only be created with iTunes

3)Yes if you wanted to listen to two of your playlists make an on the go playlist and add in the two playlists (by holding down the middle select button on the playlist name). When your done, you can delete if you so desire.

4)I think the "single-click shuffle" is the same as the shuffle button in the itunes button (bottom on the left looks like to lines crossing over each other)

5) Look at a manual if you can find one at apple.com/support, it might help

The single click shuffle shuffles songs in your library, not on your playlists. Basically, if you hit it, it'll play everything in your library. If you want to shuffle songs in your playlists, then you need to go under settings and use the shuffle option.
