The first three messages in http://ipod.macrumors.com are each visible three times there. The first 9 messages I see there today are:

Tim Cook: iPod is a 'Declining Business'
Tim Cook: iPod is a 'Declining Business'

iPod and AirPort Roundups: What's Next for Apple

Staples Now Selling iPad, iPad Mini and iPods in U.S. Online Store
Staples Now Selling iPad, iPad Mini and iPods in U.S. Online Store

After that, messages in the archive appear once. I see this behavior whether or not I have logged in to the MR site. I see the same behavior in Chrome and Safari. I don't see the behavior in other product archives, but I haven't exhaustively looked at all the archives.

I guess the iPod is that much of a declining business it needs to be mentioned thrice.

We're looking into it. I know what's causing it, but will take some tweaking.

    Confirmed. Thank you.

The better question would be why he thought a sarcastic comment served any purpose whatsoever in this discussion.

    Humor?

It didn't come off as snarky to me. Seemed more like he was just making a silly joke.
