My sister dropped her mini and (I'm almost certain) damaged the HDD. Everything else looks ok, but it has the sad face and I can hear the HDD clicking away. Anyways, it'd cost well over $100 to fix, and it's engraved so I'm not sure how much it could bring in used (as it is non-working). I was thinking that getting a used CF card and replacing the HDD might be a decent option.

I think this has been done, back when people were buying minis for the microdrive, and then throwing in an old CF card... I can snag a 1gb CF card for under $50, which while it won't be great it will be SOMETHING. Anyone have any leads for info or pointers? I'll probably test it out with an old 256mb CF card, and if it works see about getting a 1gb or something.

Would I be better of selling it for parts and taking that money+the cost of the CF card and trying to get her a refurb? What's a pink 1g engraved mini with a bad HDD go for?
