I don't like using my iphone when working out (big, clunky etc) so am going to buy a dedicated mp3 player. I know they discontinued the ipod nano line, but are there any drawbacks to the nano? Does the bluetooth feature work well for headphones? Does it matter what type of wireless headphones/earphones I buy to go with the nano?

I'm kind of surprised there isn't much of a market for dedicated mp3 players. Never felt comfortable wearing my phone when I workout...

Thanks!

I think the nano is probably a good choice, I can't tell you about the bluetooth I am not sure it even has it? Another really compact choice - like the nano if you can find it - is the shuffle. Pretty sure Sony still makes dedicated mp3 players and I see some cheapo ones at my local electronic shops still for sale.

Still most people are not willing to carry multiple devices. I grabbed a shuffle when I heard iPods were being discontinued on an impulse and still haven't opened the package...

No drawbacks at all.

I haven't bought any BT earphones, but I used a wired earbud (just one ear; the other ear's speaker had started crackling, so I cut it off at the "Y" junction) with my Nano.

I've used both of the last two Nanos -- the small, square one with the integrated clip, and the taller one with video -- and, IMO, they're still the best choice for a minimal audio-only device for using while on the move.

If you can find one, go for it.

For that purpose, Apple wanted you to buy the Apple Watch.

If you use iTunes to organize your music library, then the nano is still a decent buy, if 16GB is enough for you. If you don't use iTunes, then a nano might not be ideal. Unfortunately, I only see Sony being the "big" brand making dedicated MP3 players nowadays. For alternatives, you can only find random/no-name clunky players. If size is not a big deal, a cheap Android phone with SD card might be a good solution.

Thanks guys. Will search ebay for a nano. I use spotify mostly but still have a ton of mp3's. Have never liked carrying my phone around while working out. Just too clunky and hate those armband things :)

Why not get an iPod Classic and maybe get the Bluetooth adapter if u want to go wireless. I have modded one 500GB that I always take to the gym.

Been using my iPod Nano 8gb player for more than 10 years. Still get about 5 hours battery life. Into ultra running, so carry a 10,000 mah power pack to recharge on the go during multi day events. It’s a great bit of kit.

Personally I use an iPod touch - a surprisingly big difference in svelteness to even an iPhone SE and cheap enough I’m not overly worried if it gets broken or lost. I guess a nano fits the same bill if you can find one
