oops, been busy working lately so I missed them being debunked. How did they prove them to be fakes?

The guy who posted them fessed up. :D

Congratulation to those with too much time

Yep, they're fake. I salute those who magnified the images, compared them to previous videos and yes, even the guy who set up his OWN HOMEPAGE to disprove my images. Kudos dude, we're on the same time-wasting pier.

As for how, well check the other dude's homepage for the major details... as for the small things that were overlooked:

1) Philip's shirt was color-changed in photoshop, with some minor alterations with the healing brush to remove an extra button on the neckline, and some of the wrinkles to prevent it from being immediately identified from the ipod video (all the frames came from the ipod video)

2) The background was from a web site promoting backdrop designs (i dont remember which, i did a google search for 'photographer backdrop' or something to find it)

3) Image if altered ipod WAS just as the other guy said, with a USB connector photographed from my iMac keyboard. Good job by the way on uncovering this one!

4) The imac as well, kudos on the uncovering of this.

5) The hand connecting the cable from the ipod to the ibook was exactly from an ipod movie frame. I rotated the hand a bit and removed wrinkles from the thumb to prevent people from immediately identifying it.

In all, I was impressed on how serious this was taken. It made the front of macrumors, which is validation enough for me. :)

Also, this should serve as a reminder to those who feel that providing press credentials to rumor sites will in no way deter apple's ability to keep a secret. There will always be guys like me with too much time, photoshop, and a willingness to see how gullible users get near macworld time. Iwalks, titanium towers, even quark os x betas aside.

Again, thanks for the fun. I'm sure others will crop up soon. This iShake looks too iMovie to me, for example. I know apple just bought this program over a month ago, and now we see a beta that is more aquafied than final cut pro? Oh yeah, we all could be making twice our current salaries if we put these talents to more productive uses.

Finally, just remember: we all love Apple. Have fun.

I'd've killed for something like this over my holiday. I had to cart an iBook around with me (that I would otherwise have left at home) just so I could d/l my photos onto it at the end of each day.

If the iPod could do something like this, I'd have bought it without a second thought.

I think that they will bring the 5 GB to $299 and 10 Gb to $399.

Then, they can realease a 20 GB version for $499.

Toshiba also has a 2 GB harddrive out. Some people don't need 5 GB of space for Music. You don't need to have all your music with you all the time. I think they will release a 2 GB version for $199.

I don't think that Apple will drop the price by $100.
That's way too much. Such small harddrives are still incredibly expensive, and Apple doesn't sell A LOT of them to justify a $100 price drop.

Does not matter how many they sell. The most costly piece in the unit is the HD. Toshiba makes the HD and sells it to anyone who wants it. Toshiba will be the one who cuts pricing on that as economies of scale develop. Toshiba is already marketing their own MP3 player using removable versions of the drives.

As well most every component is off the shelf in the iPod. If Apple can get the discounts on the stuff they can justify a 100 dollar price drop.

PC ipod: eh, maybe...there is already a PC option if you want one via third party software, so not a big rush for Apple to make one of their own. Also Apple's big push of late has been to convert PC users, not cater to them.

ipod price drop: Why? have the components gotten cheaper? Has the demand dropped that much? no on both, so probably not.

Do you have a component price list that you are referring to?

And yes demand has dropped off.

50% according to the link.

Yeah they satisfied the people with money to burn. To keep sales on they are extending into the PC side and will probably reduce the price. The 100 dollar rebate on the ipod when buying a new mac was part of the test.

Price drop? Still not counting on a big one. $100 rebate when you buy a $400 ipod with a $1500 mac... the iPod is 1/4 the total so if you distribut ethe rebate it's only $25 off the ipod and $75 off the mac. maybe we'll see a minor price drop if Apple wants to clear stock, but even the release of the 10gig didnt force the 5gig price down like everyone was expecting/hoping.

2gig iPod? dumb idea IMO. If you get a 5gig you will use most of the space eventually (I know, since mine is now full and I never imagined filling it). If you don't have enough music to fill 2gigs you're not the kind of person who would spend even $300 on a 2gig iPod.

Sales of all consumer items drop off after a while, it's the nature of the game. Apple would do better to improve the ipod itself to generate more sales. How about a record feature with a mic? How about synching to digital cameras to offload images?

I have now been waiting for a price drop on the iPod since MWSF. NY is my last chance - I'll get one on July 18th come what may!
Will Apple drop the price before 2003?
- $50 if you're lucky.
Why?
- Cos they're still selling something that is way ahead of the rest - but probably not for too much longer (USB2 is taking off).

Any internal organ for 10Gb iPod.

Heres something I found out about the toshiba 1.8 inch drives. The 5GB version retails at 399, the same price as the ipod itself!

In all seriousness though, I don't have the kind of money to be spending thousands on a new tower then blow half a grand on an iPod. You want to switch Wintel users (not me), then drop the prices by a little and I'm sure more computers and iPods will be purchased.

Think back to econ class...

Here's the thing guys, and I'm sure many of you have realized this already, if apple lowered the price by $100 they would sell more ipods. It is that simple. Would they make a higher profit? Probably.

Just think back to econ...right now the ipod is not at equalibrium, I know I would buy one if it were a little cheaper (I would be able to afford it...)

I need a LARGE collection of songs to choose from

I'm not going to discuss this again due to some extremly ridculous replies I've read in some other threads. Personally I'm waiting for Apple to release a 20+ GB iPod and then I'll buy it plus a Firewire card for my PC...

Thinksecret is talking about dropping the 5 gig ipod, lowering the 10 gig ipod, and a new 20 gig ipod with maybe some new features.

erm that's what I said more or less.
but a $100 is way to much.
It won't happen. For a while that is.
The price they are on isnt such a bad deal.
BTW you saw the price of the toshiba player? I saw it for $3 more than the ipod.

HEll yeah! why not make em $10.....then everybody can afford 1!
seriously.......for the last time.....:)
The current price of the ipod isn't that bad. It really isnt.
People always want to sit on the first row for a dime.
It isn't going to happen.
Just get over it and buy 1... I did.however 5 GB is freakin' small.
(although they could have gave it 1 year warrant... uh oh here we go again....... :) )

What good would bluetooth with it's extremely slow data transfers do for the ipod? I can't see the ipod using bluetooth for moving songs because a big part of the ipod is the use of firewire.

I agree. Why would they suddenly drop the Firewire support when they hyped it like they did? Heck, the iPod even recharges it's batteries over the Firewire connection. I doubt they will implement Bluetooth just so they can have a wireless MP3 player.

Its 200 actually. If you look at the prices of flash based MP3 players, 2 GB for 200 would be cheap.

voice recording

i agree with zed; a voice-recording function on the ipod would be a clincher for me. how many hours of lectures or interviews could i record, in MP4 format, on a 20GB drive?

of course it might need a new port for the microphone. and just for good measure, a cool LCD remote i could clip onto my collar while the pod sits safely in my pocket....

*wipes drool from chin*

i tremble at the thought of how much i'd be prepared to pay for such a device.
