I have a 5.5th gen, 30gb iPod, I have had it for about 7 months,
lately the battery has been dieing, without it even being used
This has happened about twice, I would have my iPod charging, then it will get fully charged, and i will disconnect it n' all, then I will take it where I am going, and turn it on, then I get a message saying the battery is dead! This has happened twice, it has gone from completely full, to completely dead, without ever being turned on in between, yes I did have hold on during the in between time!
Also lately, it has been starting up with the apple logo allot lately, the same screen that starts up when you restart your iPod...

Is this all normal?

This has happened to me too. I'm not sure why it happens but I think sometimes the battery just goes weird and somehow runs down when it shouldn't. I don't think there's anything to be worried about.
