Wasn't sure if this is a problem due to the fact I'm using a PowerPC Mac or if its an iPod/iTunes issue, but recently the database on my iPod Classic (6th Gen) has crapped out and it requires a restore. Unfortunately iTunes 9.2.1 doesn't ever seem to be able to contact the required servers.

Is there any way I could get my iPod on this Mac since it has all my music on it? Or do I have to use another more modern computer? Or is this just a temporary outage?

Any help or suggestions appreciated :) I rely on my iPod a lot.

I wonder if manually downloading the firmware file and doing an Opt-Click on the Restore button would work? Try it out!

Where would I be able to download the firmware manually? :)

I know where to get it, but I'm not able to search for the link right now. I'll be able to post it in ~8 hours.

It seems to me that, if it has all your music on it, a restore may be the final thing you want to do as this will wipe the iPod completely.

Unless I'm misunderstanding the situation, I'd first want to try and salvage the music off the iPod, then restore it. Apparently there is an older version of Senuti which is free http://wstein.org/senuti/ that can do this.

I still have all of my iTunes Library on my iMac, but thanks anyway.

Perfect, I'll give them a spin later today. Thanks! :)
