Hi there,
I was able to buy a used iPod shuffle 3rd gen Special Edition (steel) for little money. I polished the surface and the iPod looks very shiny again. Also the battery is fine. It still holds 14h of continuous playing. But one thing is strange. Normally the battery should be charged 80% in 2h and 100% in 3h. But the orange status light never turns green. Also after 10h the status light is orange and the iPod is warm. I didn’t find anything in the web about this issue. Maybe one of you guys has any idea?!

Regards
Torsten

Is the battery actually charged when you take it off, and the light doesn't switch, or is it not charging at all? Maybe the USB isn't actually giving it enough power to charge. What is it plugged into? You may also find that the cable has been shorted. I would test it with a 4th or 2nd gen shuffle if you have it.

Thanks for the reply. I guess the iPod really charges. It is warm and the status light is orange. Maybe the cable is defective, but it works with another iPod shuffle 3G. To make this sure I will try another cable and report my experience back.

To be more specific, pull it off the charger after a few hours, and see how long it lasts off the charger. It is possible there is an issue with the light switching. (Not sure exactly what that could be though)

Hi there,
the shuffle stopped charging. The status light is green! It was the cable. With another cable the iPod charged as it should. Another iPod shuffle 3rd gen charged well with this defective cable. I guess I have to do further testing.

Thanks and regards

Congratulations! Isn’t the Shuffle a great player?!
I still have my 1st gen 1g, the next small one in 1g, then a 2g (Product Red), and finally the the last small square one.
All still work great and I have dedicated uses for each one.
Also still have and use a mini and the squat nano.
Glad you got the issue figured out.
