iPod shuffle head phones

I was looking at the iPod Shuffle as a gift for my husband, and I noticed that it does not have the same set up for the remote headphones. Is there any word if Apple will finally sell the iPod head phones sans the remote? I have had an iPod for almost a year and my headphone crumbled up. While I do want the remote, I do not want to pay for it, so hopefully Apple might just sell the headphones without the remote option.

I think eBay is your only option, unfortunately. Anyway, although the iPod headphones look nice, they're not really that great and are definitely a mugger-magnet. My Sony MDR-EX71s have done me proud
