iPod iPod shuffle problem

Hello. I have a shuffle and use it as a flash disk apart from having some songs. It works great however when I delete files from it using the finder it does not leave the space of the file. IE the file is gone but there is no space gained. Any help??? Am I deleting it wrongly???

you have to empty the trash when your shuffle is mounted to get your space back
