I live in the uk and recently bought a 40gb click wheel ipod from the states. I tried to install the software that it came with, but during installation it stops and a box appears saying:

'1628: Failed to complete installation"

I also tried downloading the latest software from the apple website but the same happens again. Im running Microsoft XP Professional with ample memory etc., so i cant understand whats going on!

ANY IDEAS!!!?

i had something similar happen when installing the ipod software onto a sony laptop, poss running xp home. loading the software seemed to take ages then when it got to the part 'please connect your ipod, ' we had a similar message. After lots of poncing about, i think, when at this point again we chose the option of completing the install before connecting said ipod. after somemore options etc it was all ok. Bit of a polaver though - much easier on a mac
