Are you wanting to transfer songs or video, photo etc?
If it's just songs then google. There's a terminal command which makes it so you can see all the song files on your iPod and drag them off. Can't remember if it worked for video etc though.

A simple google search of 'ipod to mac transfer' yields pages of results, starting with touchcopy and senutil.

The couple of times I've had to do this I've never used software. Here's the exact guide I used last time. First hit. (However, I'm assuming your iPod's mac based)
