Not sure which one he plugged in to. He also plugged it into a SONY & it worked. They looked at me like I was nuts when I said I heard things would not work.
I plugged in to my sons IHOME radio/ipod/alarm clock & it appeared to charge. I should get my DLO FM plug in soon via mail. After if comes I will report back if it charges.

I just read something on the Apple site about charging issues. What they answered was, originally ipods were chaarged using a 12v firewire system. A couple years ago when they changed to USB2 charging they told manufactures to switch to the new 5v charging, but the 12v still worked. Some manufactures changed, some didn't. With the new updates Apple is enforcing what they asked manufactures to do before. That may explain why some things work & some things don't.

Thanks for posting this clarification, this does make better sense.

FWIW, I'm looking forward to the Passport solution to the charging issue with our inline iPod connector to the car stereo. Not really wanting to give up that functionality.

..I went to Costco and got an ipod classic, for $10 less than the Apple store charges and with a 90 day no questions asked refund policy...

While at Costco, did you see if they have the new iPod Touch? I was hoping to buy from there to save some money and get their more flexible return policy.

Still debating on whether to get a 16gb or a 32gb.

I don't have any accessories really so no big deal on if this 2gb iPod Touch doesn't charge correctly on anything. However, I was considering getting some sort of iPod adapter installed in both my wife's 2007 Accord EX w/ Navi and my 2004 Accord EX w/ Navi, so maybe I should make sure what I buy is compatible with charging the new iPod Touch too (my wife will be using my old iPod 4gb nano in her car - the one I got in fall 2007)

But it does charge the 2g iPod Touch

I have a 16GB 2g iPod Touch (speaker, hard volume controls etc.) and recently purchased an original Bose Sounddock at a discount (realising fully that it would NOT charge my 2g iPod touch), got it home, plugged in my nearly empty charge iPod and was amazed to see that it 'appeared' to charge the battery.

Of course this could not be true as everyone 'knows' the original sounddock does not charge the new iPod touch. :)

Well, to dispel any confusion, it certainly DOES charge the new iPod Touch or I have a really clever iPod which charges itself :D Battery was full after a session of music listening.

I am very happy with the sound quality and am even more impressed that it charges (when it is not 'suppose' to). Perhaps Bose have applied the firmware update to the last run of the original dock?

Definitely get the 32gb. You'll be surprised how fast you fill it up especially if you stick some movies on it and get a bunch of apps.

haha, don't worry, I did end up getting the 32gb. It was a gift from my wife for Eid, and her orders were to get the 32gb if the savings were significant from Costco and even though the savings were $10 only, she still got it. I was happy angry with her.

But yeah, so glad it's a 32gb. I got the Hulk on mine now and will have the Dark Knight soon (thanks to the digital copies that came with my blu-rays).

I just bought my new 2008 IS 350 on Sunday and there's a hack to be able to not just use your iPod with the factory system for music - but also for watching movies that are on your iPod.

Hi everybody,

I have a touch 1G and a nano 4G. There are two ways of charging the touch: USB (5V) or Firewire (12V).
The new nano does not support firewire, only USB . Some car chargers use the firewire standard, because they don't have to transform the car's voltage, which is also 12V.
Perhaps, the touch 2G does no longer support the firewire. Don't know. I think there is no easy workarround for this. Similar for the problems with the docking stations.

:)HOWEVER, I had also a lot of problems charging over the USB with my touch with some wall adapters. I found a workarround, which is working with my Touch 1G and my nano 4G. You can find it hier:

(corrected)

I don't know if it works with the touch 2G.
