So I'm way out of warranty, and the glass is starting to separate from the LCD. Dust is everywhere underneath the glass.

So the question is, call apple? Or order a new front panel?

Sell it on ebay as is and buy a 4G or wait till sept for the 5G. No sense in spending $100+ to fix a 2G iPod Touch.

Unless the OP wants to take a stab at it himself/herself, I think you can find a replacement digitizer for $15 bucks.

same thing is happening to my 3gs and my ipod touch 2g. It was a real OCD situation for me but i just got used to it. and get the 4th gen . it has the glass fused to the lcd so it can't separate.

Isn't that difficult to do?

If the glass is sticking out of the device, then it makes it much easier.
I opened up a 2nd gen and it was easier than I thought. Just look at ifixits guide.

I should probably mention that I did end up completely destroying it because I accidentally hit the screw driver against the LCD which completely ruined it, but it was already a goner from water damage. Had it been working in the first place, I would have been more careful.

So yeah, it's easy. Just be careful.

I loved the iPod Touch 2G. The 2G touch is quite thin and would plan able-bodied as a baby waist- or arm-banded device for workouts and not accepting to accept a tiny little dongle hanging off the end is excellent. Also, The iPod Touch 2G are incompatible with Apple's HiFi speaker,
