Just wanted to post this here before someone else does, so we can make sure the information is correct! We at the Chronic Dev Team have finally jailbroken the iPod touch 2G!

Quick FAQ:

When will this be released?
We're not sure. No promises on any sort of release yet.

Why?
Because.

Is this better than what the Dev Team has?
No, this jailbreak is tethered, just like the dev team's. It is not a full, untethered jailbreak.

Who made this?
The Chronic Dev Team, http://chronic-dev.org/blog/

Can you use Cydia??
Yep! Check out the video.

What does tethered mean?
A tethered jailbreak is one where in order for the iPod to boot up, it needs to be connected to a computer with special software, or it won't turn on / will turn on unjailbroken (depending on the implementation)

What progress did you make beyond the latest blog post?
We were able to create a ramdisk that jailbreaks the iPod touch.

Does this require 2.1.1?
Yes, it currently does. But it will not be hard to make it require 2.2.

I don't think you're real, normally chronic posts about this stuff!
You'll just have to trust me on this one. I can assure you an official blog post about this will be coming quite soon.
UPDATE: Chronic logged in to vouch for me, look at the bottom of the second page

Where can I find a video of this?
http://qik.com/AriX

Why does your voice sound squeaky and high in the video?
Because I'm 14. :D

So its a tethered jailbreak. They're not finished yet then until it becomes untethered. Great progress though I wish them the best of luck!

Yippee!
Finally out.
Hopefully you guys will find a way to untether it.
Still, it is a breakthrough.
Good Luck!

personally if I was a 2g owner I would be a little more patient and wait to see if they can come out with an untethered jailbreak instead.

Wait, I'm a bit confused, are you part of the Dev Team?
Anyways, thanks for telling us. I had previously seen the video but don't see any point in jailbreaking until you can do it without teathering, I like using my iPod when I'm not right next to my computer.

And BTW, there are are already many threads on this:

Basically he replicated the DevTeam which is still an accomplishment imo. If no untethered jailbreak comes out, I will happily operate under a tethered jailbreak. i mean how often does one reset his ipod touch? You dont have to be near a computer to use it. Just after every reboot. (Or if it crashes)

AH. Well there is the fact that it may just restart suddenly or your battery may die when you're not at home. Even with 2.2.1, there is still the chance of a lag and an even greater chance once it's jailbroken.

I'm AriX, and I originally wrote this post back at iPod Touch Fans. I really don't appreciate you just taking it and re-posting it without credit. Thanks.

For everyone else: The person who posted that is NOT part of the chronic dev team, I am, and I wrote that post. He just took it and re-posted it for no reason. Could've just linked?
