    The only time I've ever seen an iDevice do that is when musclenerd showed off an overclocked iPhone 2G.

    Did you try a DFU mode restore to stock firmware?

    Use Google to find out how to put your iPod into DFU mode. Make sure it's connected to your computer when you put it in. Then restore it in iTunes.
