iPod touch iPod touch 2ng Gen turns off randomly.

I'm posting this for my friend (she's not tech savvy)
she has an iPod touch 8GB 2nd Generation with the latest version of iOS 3, and every once and a while it goes through a period of turning itself off about 2 seconds after being turned on.

>Battery is fully charged.
>already tried soft and hard reseting.
>already tried restoring.

Any ideas on what the problem is and any ways i can fix it would be great because she can't afford a new one.

Update update update! If it is running iOS 3, you can still update it to iOS 4 on a 2nd gen.
