I Purchased a new iPod Touch 5 (64 GB) in June of 2013. Up until the time I upgraded to iOS 8 from iOS 6 it would fully charge a almost completely depleted battery in 3 to 4 hours tops. Now after upgrading to iOS 8, current version 8.1, it takes close to 24 hours to fully charge the battery with 20% still on the battery. My searches did not turn up any consistent solutions and the ones I have tried, like re-booting the iPod, made no difference. And before you ask I am currently using and have always used the charger that came with the iPod.

Can anyone give me any ideas on what a solution to this problem is?
Is there a solution?

The battery could also just be giving up. Doubtful that it'd happen in under two years, but it's a possibility.

Have you tried a different cable? My first one lasted for two years, it might just be time to replace it.
If you have another iOS device that can use this cable to charge, try charging that to see if it works or not, to rule out if it's the IpT5 or the cable.

Another suggestion would be to see if you can borrow someone's charger to cut down on the variables. Perhaps an Apple store one (unplug one of the Iph5/5s/6/6+)?

I doubt it, but someone mentioned if you give it enough cycles, the new version of ios will "get acquainted" with the hardware and will now correctly report the appropriate amount of battery life.

Are you serious or is that said in jest?
