I just bought an iPod touch 5G with iOS 8.3. Should I update to iOS 9?

How much did you buy this iPod for? I'd see if you can get your money back and buy a 6th gen... iPod 6th gen is closer to iPhone 5S/6 performance with twice the RAM, and iPod 5 is the same as the iPhone 4S. Im quite certain this is the last year it will be supported, while the 6th gen still should get at least a few more years.

Anyway, I would wait till iOS 9.2 comes out before upgrading your iPod. 9.2 is bringing about quite a bit in terms of performance improvements.

I paid 30$ for it. iCloud unlocked and 32 GB

Ah okay that's not bad then! I thought you paid $100 or more for that or something. In that case, not worth it. But $30? Pretty good deal..

I couldn't afford a 6 so I went with a 5. Family friend offered it. Has some scuffs but I can deal lol

Wow nice deal! I find 9.1 on my old iPT5 to be about the same as 8.4 was, probably because Apple left out a bunch of useless junk like swipe right to search for older devices. I wish I could get that slimmed down of 9.1 on my other iOS devices, they would probably fly instead of lag like they do now. I don't think you'll notice much difference if you decide to update.

I would update it to IOS 9. I updated my fifth generation to IOS 9 and can't tell a difference in performance. In some ways, I think it made mine a little bit faster. Since 9.2 is getting a little bit better performance wise, I would wait till that comes out before you should update.

Keep it on iOS 8.3. The performance will be faster than 9.1, and the old music app is better for playing songs as well.
