Cool if it was true. However it is my opinion that Bluetooth would likely have been activated (hacked?) by now if it was also in the first generation iPod touch. But, perhaps people doing software modifications on these have no idea how to make an interface for that device.

Either way, the prospect is intriguing.

Off of the shelf, there's no Bluetooth option on the latest iPod Touches (2nd Generation). If Apple does decide to release a new firmware to enable Bluetooth, I hope they don't charge for it.

OK, i can accept SMS messages use shorthand but when you're on a proper keyboard, surely it doesn't save time to actually type the proper words. There's not even a keystroke saving on "meen".

end rant

Let us use some simple logic:

Fact 1: In picture two the Wi-Fi symbol is on in the menu bar.

Fact 2: In the same picture the menu button for Wi-Fi is blank (it should be displaying the SSID/name of the Wi-Fi is connected to).

So logically we can conclude that this is either a fake, or it has been photoshopped (so, basically, fake or fake.).

Sorry to disappoint you all!

I think they are fake, but maybe... possibly (i'm giving them the benefit of the doubt here) the Wifi network is called "Wifi"

LOL, I've seen that happen

I wouldn't be surprised. I lived in an apartment complex where people named their wifi routers the dumbest things-- including just 'wifi'.

do you pay attention t omenus when in settings?

Wi-Fi is always on the left then on the right is normally the network name

examples of network off and connected

If bluetooth was enabled would this open the door to tethering from a cell phone? I have a blackberry 8830 which I tether with my MacBook Pro. i would love to connect it up to my Touch!

If you use logic, you can conclude the Touch in the photos is fake, so long as you know it's also just like your own. The Touch in the photos is not like ours, as it has an option for bluetooth. It would not be unusual for an Apple technician to have a "custom" prototype on which bluetooth was being tested. If you allow that it's a prototype, then anything else is also possible including having nothing listed next to wifi in the settings menu.

I personally have no doubt that Apple has toyed with bluetooth on the Touch. They've probably also toyed with FM radio. For whatever reason they aren't including either on the current model.

I agree with your theory that this is likely fake, however the SSID being blank means absolutely jack.

an SSID I often connect to is literally " "

Sorry for the crappy photo, all I have with me today is my Macbook (SLR at home)

The mysterious 'coming soon' mic-headphones don't necessarily enlighten to the bloot'th capabilities, but at least it leads toward voip.

Pity there is no further in depth info from Apple on this.

OK, but note the odd lighter circle halfway between the Wi-Fi and supposed Bluetooth button. Could be an air bubble, or it could be a photoshop watermark. Hmm...

You have to look kind of close, but in the center here:

Looks like that's just an air bubble. There are other air bubbles on the corners of the touch as well.

Quite possibly true. I can neither qualify or disprove that. I , am on your side of the fence in thinking that this is not true (especially on the 1st gen), however if it was a G2, I would be more likely to believe it as it has been noted that one of the chips is, or is strongly related to bluetooth.

There is no bluetooth chip! That's just a jailbroken ipod touch that was installed something that makes the bluetooth icon appear in the status bar. Anyone with a jailbroken ipod touch can download the package that puts the bluetooth sign on the status bar.

Actually, on the 2G that is not exactly confirmed. The chip exists, however nobody has confirmed if it is actually setup for Bluetooth, or re-tuned for use as a Nike+ device or not.

iPod Nano, Touch Disassembled. iPod Touch has a Bluetooth Chip.

Occasionally, however, there's also an interesting find. In this case, iFixit has found that the iPod Touch actually contains an unadvertised Broadcom BCM4325 Bluetooth chip. Apple has not made any mention of Bluetooth support in the new iPod Touch.

What Apple did announce was that it had added Nike+ wireless support in the iPod Touch. According to Apple's FAQ, the Nike+ system uses a "proprietary low-power 2.4 GHz radio protocol" which is specifically said not to be Bluetooth or Wi-Fi.

Bluetooth, however, appears to use the same frequency. We're uncertain if a Bluetooth chip can emulate the Nike+ protocol or if there is a separate unidentified Nike+ receiver in the iPod Touch. Regardless, this will certainly trigger speculation about adding Nike+ support in current iPhones and additional uses of the Bluetooth chip in the iPod Touch (such as Bluetooth headsets).

I do believe the chip is indeed capable of full bluetooth. Nike+ is something that only .001% of the people who buy the touch care about. It just has to be able to do something else either that or Nike paid them more then they will ever see from the sales of the ipod touch.
