I saw the front page article about a bluetooth chip being in the new iPod touch, and subsequently the "debunk" about it being for the Nike+. I'm wondering, however, if it would be possible to use the Nike+ chip for bluetooth devices in the future. Maybe via a firmware update or some such? Basically what I'm asking is if that's even possible or likely---I'm not well versed on the touch hacking scene.

I had some trouble following the discussions in the thread; they were mostly just speculation anyway. From what I can tell, assuming it's a non-customized Broadcom chip, and assuming the antenna is connected in a suitable manner, it's technically possible for Apple to enable additional functionality (such as bluetooth support, or maybe even FM radio) with a software update.
