iPod Touch broke - can I still buy Apple Care and use it?

My boss just told me that his 9 year-old daughter just broke the glass on the iPod Touch that she received this Christmas.

Is it possible for him to purchase Apple Care and then use it to get a replacement or fix from the Apple Store?

Please don't flame me for asking this question. I have no idea what to tell him in this case. Just looking for help. Thanks.

Not possible. Apple Care won't cover a broken glass.

Apple Care doesn't cover accidental damage so it wouldn't help him at all.
What he needs to do is take the iPod into a store and pay for it to be fixed

If you give them a sob story, sometimes they'll replace hardware for free. My mom got an iPad 2 for her birthday...two days later, she picked it up by just the cover, not realizing it was only held on by magnets and not physically hinged. iPad dropped 5 feet face-first onto the tile floor and shattered the glass. She took it into the apple store, explained what happened, and the tech handed her a brand new iPad and an invoice for $0.00 with a line that said something to the effect of "replaced as a one-time courtesy".
