Yeah. G4s are 7 years old (well over 4 years)... so, I think its safe to say Apple would have an understandable position in not supporting the USB port type from a machine 7 years old. You can try to keep this sucker on life support, but you're fighting the wind. I was considering upgrading mine to Leopard, then I looked into getting an accelerator, then I realize that eBay had more modern Macs for sale for less than the cost of an accelerator.

Food for thought. Anything you CAN still do is "gravy" at this point.

But video and mp3 files haven't changed in all that time.
I used to be able to transfer them to my other iPods.
My computer is more than capable of running mp3s and video files, it can even edit video and audio without any grumbles. I would hardly call it on life support.

Granted, if it was trying to work out complicated weather patterns, or ray trace a scene from The Matrix in real time I might expect to run into problems, but mp3s and video files are old as the hills and there shouldn't be any need for them to be incompatible with my machine.

It is not reasonable to expect me to buy a new machine that I do not need.

Apple have been utterly arbitrary in deciding that my computer is too old.

It's the golden arrow of consumerism and it's effin tragic.

If I can get mp3s and video to stream from a wireless internet connection then there's no reason why I can't transfer my data wirelessly, or even through a cable.

It's not like mp3s are any more than a couple of meg!
