I'm amazed at people that cancel orders or return products without trying it for themselves. Every time I have purchased something where there has been talk about "screen defects" or "sound hissing" or "whining" or "bad lcd screens", etc, etc, etc, I haven't had a single problem with anything I've gotten. Would you rather listen to some dude on a forum or see for yourself if there's a problem with a product that you actually want?

I bought one of the first batch of MacBook Pro's, and everyone was complaining about one thing or another (whining issues, screen issues, sound issues, battery issue). The only issue I've had was a minor battery problem that Apple fixed no questions asked. People can find issues with anything.

I am not reading much about hiss. I can see the screen issues (which appear to be a bad first batch) but am unconvinced screen hiss is a real issue.

The poor audio is being mentioned in reviews a lot but people are focussing on the screen.. not sure why - the ipod is a music player.. audio is its reason for existence and that being bad is a big issue. Poor audio on a phone.. who cares.. but when hey used the same design for the ipod they should have spent some time getting it to sound good.

Hiss

I have not heard one yet but as soon as my local store gets these in, i will take my atrio m5 headphones to the shoppe and see about the hiss. every dap except smaller md players hiss but the latter ipods (minus the shuffles) did not hiss much at all - no more than others. i own cowon d2 and meizu m6 as well and they both hiss quite a bit with sensitive headphones such as (um2 and e500 as well as but to a much lesser degree, the atrio m5).

no dap should hiss from the senn's unless you are using the smaller cx300 etc. no big headphone is sensitive enough to hiss. you really need one that is probably senstive of over 100db -110db before you can hear it. the um2 was unbearable with any and all dap except md if i did not use an amp.

i am eyeing the touch very much but... if hiss is major and i hate to use a portable amp, i will forgo it and stay with my d2 which i rather do not like. cheers

I got a Touch yesterday at my local Best Buy in Janesville, Wisconsin, if people are wondering. I also cancelled my online pre-order just fine with no problem. I then read about this hissing sound and tried it out, but have not heard one yet. Maybe i just have a perfectly working one, but at least I am not experiencing that problem either. The same is with the screen issue. Nothing wrong with mine, or at least nothing bothers me.

i have no hissing noise what so ever. It rely depends if you have high-end headphone or the apple one.

Except it doesn't appear that the audio is actually poor. Perhaps not the best sounding iPod, but I would fathom to guess better than say the 3G (some have said this.)

Anyway, you really need to hear it yourself and then decide.

I never noticed a single hissing sound on my iPod 5G but, today just to test it out, I plugged my brothers' earbuds into my 5G iPod and I do actually hear a hissing sound and when I turn my iPod off, the hissing stops. How is this even a problem if I never noticed it before now? By the way, I never use the earbuds... is it possible to hear the hissing without earbuds on? I tried my iPod at full volume with sony wrap-arounds and could only hear other noises that were coming from everywhere else. Don't get too freaked out people!
