iPod touch Ipod Touch not recognized by itunes

When i plug in my ipod it starts charging but does not show up on itunes. i tried everything apple told me and nothing worked. I erased everything on my ipod and the itunes store on my ipod does not work. Can anyone help?

turn it off (hold power button, slide to turn off) and plug it into itunes.

just tried it and no luck. my computer recognizes it cuz it makes a sound when i plug it in but it still wont pop up on itunes
