It’s possibly been they tried an early iOS 16 build on it & a lot of the features would not have worked on it.

If the A9 based iPad 5 can run iOS 16 (well iPadOS 16) which is fair more power intensive due to the significantly larger display, then the Touch 6 should have been able to as well.

Rubbish move from 'Environmentally friendly' Apple.

Completely arbitrary considering the A9 2GB ram iPad 5 is getting supported.

Given they were selling this at full price as a new item just a month ago, it's pretty unforgivable.
For me, the "full price" part is of key note, and the sole offender. Even though my last iPod Touch was a 5th gen (I still carry it with me, but don't really use it. It's mostly a glorified calculator and flashlight at this point :D ) , I was considering snagging a 7th gen unit "just for old time's sake". However, them prices :( It'd have to be at least 50% off for me to consider buying, it's lost that much value for me. Not when I can get a "in new condition", latest gen iPad for just $20 to $40 more assuming you match the storage requirements. Reminds me when some people I knew who were still paying $20 a month for AOL for internet access when broadband, even though new, was an option for about the same price, and far superior.

This is where "Apple commands a premium" kicks in, and is keeping me away.

It could also be that Apple just wanted to remove these iPhones & iPod to force users to upgrade.
