The only mistake Apple made was releasing the iPhone before the Touch. If they had released the Touch first people wouldn't be crying about little things it doesn't have compared to the iPhone and would be amazed by the multi-touch user interface and wi-fi w/ safari.

Very good observation. Much better idea to add and build upon a product to produce a new model, rather than strip one down.

iPhone: PHONE.
iPod: MUSIC PLAYER.

THEY ARE DIFFERENT. It drives me absolutely insane when people diss it because it's not as fantastic as the iPhone. Think of the original iPod, then rethink your statements about it.

And are you saying we should all be comparing the 2007 iPod Touch to the six year old 2001 iPod to appreciate its features?

Personally, I believe it makes more sense to compare it to a similar 2007 product, say, hmm, let's see now, what's similar.... oh, I know, an iPhone!

I am also amazed at all the criticism. I understand being upset about product defects - like bad screens but a lot of the other stuff really seems unwarrented.

Three years ago I bought a 4th gen 20 gig Ipod for $300. All it does is play music - period. No color screen, no photos, no video nada. Last week, for $100 more, I bought the Touch and I'm just astounded at what it can do in comparison. I have my contacts, web browser, almost as much storage, movies, tv shows, Youtube and of course the music. It really is just a reflection of how fast the technology is changing that people are complaining.

I could NOT agree with you more...

I too can make a comparison with older technology and say my 1997 Newton has an on-screen touch keyboard complete with contacts, calendar entries and notes. Even web browsing and email. Over ethernet or wireless LAN. Lots of other stuff too not on the iPod Touch.

So I too am truly amazed - at how NOT fast technology has moved with the iPod Touch. It still hasn't caught up to 10 year old Apple products in some features. The iPhone has. :)

Ah never had a Newton - sounds interesting - I should look it up. Still - to me, this IPod is really the one I've been waiting for. I hope that the calender gets un-crippled at some point but I'm happy with it even if it doesn't.

In general I agree with you. But you have to understand, people have been waiting for a widescreen iPod for like, what, 13 years? And the anticipation ratcheted up even further after the iPhone came out. I think most people posting just wanted their problem solved.

In the long run it will all blow over anyway. The initial disappointment people is understandable to me, but will be forgotten soon enough.

I really love the look of the new iPod Touch and I'm getting one next month (bit worried about screen but if there is a prob - I will take it back). To be honest, I was hoping to use it to manage my calendar and remind me of important events. I am a tad disappointed that you cannot add new events on the go but hey, I'm sure something will arrive to add that functionality in the near future.

Whilst I understand the differences between the two products (iPod Touch and iPhone), and the fact that they have come along so far since the first iPod was introduced, I don't think there is any need for people to argue so aggressively about it.

I assume most of you clowns are carrying an Itouch and a cell phone together since Itouch isnt a phone. Why not just use the calender and notes function on your cell phone?
