I pre order one for delivery the 13-15th of September, hut if it is released before then I am going to the apple store and canceling the shipment. That's what the Apple employee told me I should do :)

I pre-ordered and paid for overnight shipping and it says it delivers on September 10

I don't mind the $15 in sales tax, so I get mine on the 8th since I can pick it up in the store. I also get 10% off since I'm trading in a dead ipod. :)

I see Walmart took the iPod Touch G4 off their website today after being shown the past few days. I bet the first months production is sold out since MacMall is now saying Sep 30th.

I pre-ordered, overnight delivery, and my tracking still says delivery on the 10th. I won't be surprised if it shows up the day before though.

I have a £150 Apple Gift Card which can only be used in Apple retail stores, so I'm going to have to use my legs and walk into town and see whats going on next week. Hopefully I'll get it before the end of next weekend. :D

What do you guys think, would the preorder by Apple Store be faster, or getting it from one of the Apple Retail Stores and retail stores?

I am 90% sure that if u decide to pick it up at the Apple Store instead of pre-ordering, u will get it before anyone else who pre-ordered it. The new iPods are most likely going to be available around Tuesday-Wednesday in store. And everyone who pre-ordered are going to receive their iPod between the 10th-16th.

im thinking of buying my ipod from best buy and it says tat the dilevery date will be on sept 6 if i order the expidited shipping

I am not sure about everyone in general, but I ordered mine literally within 1-2 minutes of the Apple Store coming back up, and mine still says shipping in "1 Week", and arriving between the 10th and the 14th. Seems reasonable, I suppose, but I guess it's just a delay based on shipping method, or maybe they are not ready for the demand for this. Either way, it likely depends on when you ordered, and how you opted to have it shipped.

I'm hoping you are right. Mostly since I'm doing that. :D I didn't want to wait for mine. An Apple store is within 5 miles of my house. :D

I got a text from Mint.com this morning that my credit card was credited for the ipod touch purchase (ordered on Wednesday at 3:15 pm EDT) , so I will probably get before Friday (expedited shipping Sept 10-14 per order status)... :)

I ordered mine almost instantly, also. Mine has 10-14th and "Ships in 1 week" too. Maybe even they don't know when it will ship haha!

Mine is also still due to arrive between the 10th-14th. I also ordered within 5 minutes of the Apple Store coming back online. They could very well show up a couple days earlier than the projected time though. When I ordered a couple 3rd gens a couple weeks ago, they both arrived 2-3 days before the estimated arrive time. One came from PA, the other from China. If these are shipping straight out of China, they could easily start shipping over the weekend, and through the holiday, as Labor Day is only a US holiday of course. The "10th" and "10th-14th" people could easily start seeing their new Touches show up on Wed or Thurs. Just my opinion, but also based on past experience. I believe iPhone 4 pre-order people actually started getting them early. And Amazon.com always gets pre-order books to arrive on their actual release date (I know this from ordering Harry Potter books in the past).

I agree. I think we may see them on Wednesday. Seems like they would want the people that bought it first to get it first...maybe not

It stands to reason that there should be a big shipment day. And there's no reason why that day, larges cases for retailers could be shipped out alongside individual units for pre-orders. Then they'd all hit their destinations right around the same time.

I wonder if the pre-orders will come straight from China or from a US location. Not that it matters. My two 3rd gens came, one from Pennsylvania (via USPS), one from China (via Fedex), both shipped the same day, and both arrived in New York the same day.

Was typing the same reply a couple mins back.

Anyways,

They've replaced 4.1's release from Sept 8th back to Coming Soon, so my guess is that the first shipment will hit shores on the 10th since it's when most people are reporting their earliest estimates. Delivery within the day and goes on sale (arriving at doorsteps) Friday evening or Saturday morning.

1 week is primarily as shift to hide the fact that 9/8 is the release date, as when Jobs says a week, it means a week. They ship out at the end of Wednesday from wherever they have been stored, and rush to your door. If they are using FedEx, it should be Friday. If they have picked UPS, I'm guessing Monday. Anyone else, and it will never get here. =/

Wouldn't it be better then to buy it in the store? Then you can get it on the eighth. It's not like every unit the Apple stores receive will be shipped once it gets to the store. I plan on camping even if no line exists.

Logical? Absolutely. But, as I live a few hours from any Apple Store, and the nearest Best Buy infuriates me every time I go, and even it is 2 hours away, it is not feasible for me to do that. I think I can live for a few days to get it, and plus, I get some stupid excitement from tracking packages like this. I could have waited for my iPad, but it was far more fun to drop in here and join the tracking party than to waltz down to the Apple Store and pick it up.

I'm five minutes away. :D I love the proximity.
