5th generation iPod touch, only a month or two old, stuck with screen off and won't respond to anything. Won't charge, not recognized on a computer, and won't even reset by holding the sleep and home buttons for 10+ seconds. This happened a few times before but it resolved itself after a while, but this time it's been overnight but still doesn't work. I think it is iOS 8's glitches and schenanigans (iOS 8 is worst OS update EVER!)

Can anything be done or does it need to go to a Genius bar?

Since it isn't doing anything, and it's only a few months old, send it or take it to Apple. Best solution right there.

Just hope they don't say you did something to it. I've dealt with that BS before with a 3rd gen iPod touch under warranty. Apparently they got a lawsuit over it (faulty LSI indicators in the headphone jack) but it wasn't worth the trouble to get a tiny bit of cash IMO. It straight up died like yours, working one minute, gone the next with no signs of life. They said it was user damage when it was treated like a baby.

Best of luck, as it does sound like a hardware issue.

iPod was recognized in iTunes as being in recovery mode. It must've gone in recovery mode when I held down buttons to put it in recovery mode...
Now restoring it.

Restoring failed twice. Error 4005. iTunes couldn't get the serial number too. Must go to Apple store.
